4-minute City Initiative

The primary goal of this program is to have a CARE member arrive with an AED and CPR skills within 4 minutes. Survival rates for SCA are very low and we would like to change that in our community! If you would like to join the CARE team or learn more about what you can do, please visit Cumberland PA AED Unit - Avive AED.

What is the 4-minute city initiative?
This program is designed to strategically deploy Avive’s state of the art Automated External Defibrillator (AED) technology to increase a person’s chances of survival when they are suffering from Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). The Peyton Walker Foundation has supplied 25 AEDs throughout Cumberland County to begin this program.

Where are the AEDs?
The 25 AED machines have been strategically given to Cardiac arrest rapid engagement (CARE) team members throughout the County. CARE team members are not all emergency services personnel. Anyone who wants to help in their community can apply to receive an AED within the scope of the project.

How does it work?
When a call comes in to the 9-1-1 center and it is determined that there is a cardiac arrest, they will hit a button in their RapidSOS platform. By doing this, AEDs within close proximity to the SCA will be alerted. The CARE team member will then accept the alert and be mapped to the incident location. If at any time the scene becomes unsafe, the county can cancel the request.
